WhatsApp has rolled out a new update for iPhone users which lets them set it as the default calling and messaging app on their smartphones.

Last year, Apple said that it would allow iPhone users in the European Union to change their calling and messaging app, but later announced that the functionality would be available to everyone with iOS 18.2. As noted by WaBetaInfo, you will need to update WhatsApp for iOS to the latest version (v25.8.74) to be able to use the feature.

2. On the screen that appears, you will see an option named ‘Default apps’, clicking on which will let you change the default apps like browser, messaging, calling and email.

3. Now, tap on messaging and calling and choose WhatsApp from the list.

When WhatsApp is set as the default app on iPhone, your device will automatically open the selected app whenever you tap on a phone number or press the message button from the contacts list.

In addition to being able to change the default calling and messaging app, iPhone users can now also change the email, call filtering, translation, passwords, keyboard and payments apps.
