Ahmed Mohamed, 14, who was arrested from a Texas school last month for allegedly carrying a ‘bomb’, met Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum on Wednesday while on a family trip.
Bashir is a wanted war criminal by the international criminal court (ICC) for alleged genocide and war crimes in Darfur. Also, Mohammed’s father Mohamed al-Hassan, recently lost the Presidential seat to Bashir in April.
According to the Sunday Tribune, the meeting took place at the President’s residence where the father and son duo were warmly received by Bashir.
The report says that Mohamed was ‘extremely delighted’ meeting Bashir and visiting Sudan. He hoped to meet Bashir again “with a new invention and success.”
Before visiting his native country, Ahmed and his family took a trip to the Middle-East starting with Doha, where he went to Education City – a five-square-mile cluster of universities and think tanks. He also traveled to Saudi Arabia and visited Mecca, reports The Guardian.
While touring, Mohammed was active on twitter and expressed his adoration for Sudan.

In September, #IStandWithAhmed was trending on social media after Mohamed was arrested for carrying a homemade clock which, to the school staff, looked like a fake bomb.
“Some commentators said the incident reflected anti-Muslim sentiment among officials in the suburban Texas city,” reports The Guardian.
Barack Obama invited Mohamed to White House and other big-wigs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Hillary Clinton also expressed their solidarity.
