A fire in a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Selangor, near Kuala Lumpur, caused a massive explosion on Tuesday, leaving over 100 people injured, leading authorities to evacuate nearby residential areas, CNN reported. National oil company Petronas stated that the fire started at one of its gas pipelines at 8.10 am.

In a statement, the company confirmed that the affected pipeline had been isolated. While three nearby gas stations were not impacted by the fire, they were temporarily shut down as a precaution while an investigation is underway, the Guardian reported.

The incident was caught on camera and is now circulating on the internet. The viral clip shows a massive, fiery mushroom cloud rising into the sky. The flames had reached up to 20 stories high at one point, according to the Selangor state fire department, as reported by the Star newspaper.

Lee Weng Ken, who sustained burns to his left leg, shared that the ceiling of his house collapsed and crushed his car, which was parked in the compound. “I rushed out of my house but fell and suffered burns due to the heat from the blaze near my house,” he told Bernama, the Malaysian National News Agency.
