Panic broke out on a transatlantic flight after a passenger reportedly tried to open an emergency door at 35,000 feet. The incident occurred on Plus Ultra Flight 701, travelling from Madrid’s Barajas Airport to Caracas, Venezuela, on February 28, while the plane was over the Atlantic Ocean, according to Daily Mail.

A flight attendant broke his leg while attempting to get hold of the passenger who caused the ruckus mid-air, the New York Post reported. “This individual suddenly went to one of the doors of the plane trying to manipulate it,” a spokesperson for Plus Ultra Airlines told Jam Press.

short article insert As per passengers onboard, the man suddenly leapt from his seat and began pulling at the door lever. While some passengers screamed in panic, some rushed to assist the flight attendants to help control the man.

Viral footage from the incident shows the man standing by the exit while cabin crew members struggled to calm him. The passenger was eventually seen lying on the floor with his hands bound behind his back, remaining under close surveillance for the rest of the flight, reports said.

“A passenger began to feel restless, annoying the person in the next seat with shouts. The crew acted quickly, and relocated the passenger to another seat. Moments later, he suddenly went to one of the doors of the plane trying to manipulate it. Immediately, our cabin crew subdued the passenger and secured him in the back of the plane until he reached the destination,” the spokesperson for Plus Ultra Airlines said, as reported by Daily Mail.

A similar incident took place in January, wherein a passenger on a Korean plane attempted to open the emergency exit door mid-flight. In another incident in November last year, a passenger on a flight from Bangkok to Seoul tried to open the emergency exit door during the journey.
