A driver stuck in peak Bengaluru traffic found their vehicle marked as a parked car on Google Maps. Sharing their story on the r/Bangalore subreddit, the user revealed they were stranded on the Domlur flyover, heading towards Indiranagar, when the app mistakenly identified their location as a parking spot.

Coordinates shared on Imgur showed the car was stationary in the northbound lanes for long enough for Google Maps to assume it was a deliberate stop. Adding to the irony, the app said, “Google Maps will save this parking location until 3:42 AM.”

When the screenshot was shared on Reddit, many users were skeptical at first. Some debated whether the save was triggered automatically or if the driver had marked it manually.

The original poster clarified saying, “It’s auto. That’s the whole point of the post—Google Maps’ algorithm thought I was parked. Why would I set myself as parked on a flyover?”

Another Redditor wrote, Haha! Next thing you know, BBMP will start charging you rent for your ‘parking spot.’ Might as well set up a chai stall on the flyover.”

A third user commented, “Google maps does not determine if we parked or not by the amount of time we stay at a place. It does when your Bluetooth gets disconnected from the car. So most likely you turned your car OFF to save some fuel and Google maps assumed you have parked. Good luck on Bangalore traffic.”

Another user said, “Most roads in Bangalore are just parking place.”
