India is mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Admitted for age-related health issues, his demise marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian politics. Tributes have been pouring in from across the world, with leaders, celebrities, and netizens expressing their condolences.

Anand Mahindra, chairperson of Mahindra and Mahindra, was among those who paid homage. Sharing a heartfelt message on his X account, he wrote, “Farewell Dr. Manmohan Singh. You loved this nation. And your service to it will long be remembered. Om Shanti,” alongside a photograph of the former Prime Minister. Social media platforms have since been flooded with similar sentiments, reflecting the profound respect and admiration people held for him.

 

Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, also posted a tribute on his X account. He wrote, “India mourns the loss of Dr Manmohan Singh, a true statesman whose quiet demeanor belied his transformative impact. An architect of economic reforms, he shaped modern India with intellect, grace, and integrity. A leader who let actions speak louder than words.”

Author Anand Ranganathan shared post on his X account. He wrote, “When Dr Manmohan Singh arrived, our foreign exchange reserves were 3 billion; when he left, they stood at 300 billion. Rare academic, reluctant politician, he pulled India out of a hole and dragged her in the right direction. He was pure gold – glittering yet malleable.”

 

Business leader Gautam Adani also paid his respects, saying, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh. History will forever honour his pivotal role in the transformative 1991 reforms that reshaped India and opened its doors to the world. A rare leader who spoke softly but achieved monumental strides through his actions, Dr Singh’s life remains a masterclass in leadership, humility and service to the nation and will inspire generations to come.”

Former Indian cricketers also paid their respects. Virender Sehwag wrote, “My heartfelt condolences on the passing away of our former Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh Ji. Om Shanti.”

 

Yuvraj Singh paid his respects with a heart-felt message, “A visionary leader and a true statesman who worked tirelessly for India’s progress. His wisdom and humility will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.”

AIIMS informed that Dr Manmohan Singh was rushed to the emergency department following an unexpected loss of consciousness at home. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead at 9:51 PM.
