‘Chalo Dilli’: Ram Nath Kovind’s invitation to Rashtrapati Bhavan wins hearts on Twitter

President Ram Nath Kovind has sent a 'humble' invitation to all Indians to visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan in a rather sweet tweet on Twitter. "The next time you are in Delhi, I invite you to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan. It belongs to Indians all over the world #PresidentKovind," he wrote.

If you’ve visited Delhi, chances are that you may have been enamoured by the beauty of the Government buildings in the Capital. And if you secretly wish you could go and take a proper view inside — especially of the President’s official home, located on Raisina Hill — here’s a golden opportunity for you. President Ram Nath Kovind has sent a ‘humble’ invitation to all Indians to visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan in a rather sweet tweet on Twitter. “The next time you are in Delhi, I invite you to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan. It belongs to Indians all over the world #PresidentKovind,” he wrote.

The tweet, that had been shared more than 2,800 people and garnered about 8,700 likes, at the time of writing, has touched many hearts on the microblogging site. As soon as the tweet reached Twitterati, they responded to the president with tweets — mixed with delight, gratitude and humour. While many called him the “first one” to invite his fellow citizens, his predecessor Pranab Mukherjee had opened up Rashtrapati Bhawan to the public and even organised a programme where he had artists and others staying over for a longer duration of time.

Incidentally, President APJ Abdul Kalam had opened up the gates of the 340-room house to children and used to have quite a few young visitors drop in the year round. Otherwise, only the Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Mughal Gardens are usually opened to public, once a year, in February.

Here’s what Kovind posted on Twitter.

The message caught many off-guard on the microblogging site, and they couldn’t help but thank him for the lovely gesture and his “down-to-earth” nature. However, a few others kept their witty game on, and told him to put it up on travel websites such as Trivago and Airbnb.

Check out some reactions to his tweet here.
