Beggar uses QR code for almsWith the boost in internet connectivity, people are adopting digital technologies for efficiency. A video of a visually impaired beggar asking for alms using a QR code in Assam’s Guwahati has caught the internet’s attention.
Congress leader Gauravv Somani shared the video on X. The video shows the beggar approaching a car with a PhonePe QR code attached to his shirt. He then asks for alms from the man inside the car, who scans the QR code. “I stumbled upon a remarkable scene in bustling #Guwahati—a beggar seamlessly integrating digital transactions into his plea for help, using PhonePe! Technology truly knows no bounds.
It’s a testament to the power of technology to transcend barriers, even those of socio-economic status,” Somani wrote.
“A thought-provoking moment that speaks volumes about the evolving landscape of compassion and innovation. Let’s ponder on this intriguing intersection of humanity and digital advancement,” he added.

Since the video was uploaded, it garnered over 1,300 views on the platform. While a few users warned others, calling it “business”, others applauded the beggar. Reacting to it, a user commented to the effect: This group of people are not beggars, but rather they are professionals running a business. It’s important to recognise the difference between the two, as real beggars are the ones who are truly suffering.
Another user wrote, “Awesome… He has trancended all the barriers of collection and the pain of counting and then traveling to the bank for deposit. Direct to the account. Gazab brains. Whoever did this to him had given him a lot of ease and peace of mind.”
“He is blind, please help poor handicapp,” the third one reacted.
