In Mumbai, schools and colleges opened and lakhs of commuters boarded overcrowded trains to work as the rain subsided and India’s Maximum City slowly returned to normalcy on Wednesday. Lakhs of citizens commuting on suburban trains had a tough time due to curtailed operations on certain routes.

In Surat, heavy rainfall was recorded in two taluks on Wednesday morning and many areas were inundated. There were also four incidents of trees getting uprooted in various localities. The flood control department said the city received 2 inches of rainfall in just two hours, at Choryasi taluka (25 mm) and Kamrej (6 mm). However, no rainfall was reported in Navsari, Valsad, Dangs, and Tapi in South Gujarat.

Rain is most likely to affect most places over North Goa and South Goa districts during the next 2-3 hours, Met says. Moderate to heavy spells of rain is likely to be accompanied with winds reaching up to 20-25 knots.
Himachal Pradesh too received rainfall and the temperature in the state dropped by 5-6 notches, PTI quoted the Met. The maximum rainfall was recorded in Ghumarwin at 100 mm. Tourist destination Dharamshala received 34 mm rainfall, followed by Kasauli (25), Shimla and Dalhousie (11 each), Kangra (7), Theog (6), and Kufri (5).
The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 34 degrees Celsius, while the lowest was 11 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rains lash many parts of Uttarakhand with Kalsi receiving the highest rainfall in the state, recording 95 mm, PTI quoted officials as saying. Devprayag in Tehri Garhwal district received 69.5 mm of rainfall followed by 64 mm of rainfall in Ghansali and 48.3 mm of rainfall in Dehradun, the official said.
Early morning, the state received rainfall and has left a number of roads in Dehradun waterlogged. The temperature in Dehradun was recorded as 22.6 degrees Celsius compared to the minimum of 26.3 degrees Celcius on Wednesday. The Met predicts heavy rains at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts till Saturday, PTI reported.
The Mumbai International Airport Ltd the private aerodrome operator, had said on July 1 that the full operations was expected to be resumed by Thursday.
In the last two days, around 280 flights have been cancelled from the Mumbai airport as a result of the incident. The partial operations at the Mumbai airport have resulted in massive flight cancellations and delays. Flights are currently being operated by the less-capacity secondary runway.
Operations from the main runway of the city airport, which has been shut since Monday night due to the skidding of a SpiceJet aircraft and the subsequent blocking of a part of the runway, is unlikely to resume today, a source told PTI. Since the stranded aircraft has not been removed completely, the MIAL has obtained NOTAM (notice to Airmen) for runway 09/27 (main runway) till Thursday midnight, the source added. The NOTAM is given to pilots and includes information on potential hazards on a flight route.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, along with his Delhi counterpart Satyendra Jain and various hospital officials, held a meeting to discuss measures to tackle cases of malaria, dengue and chikungunya. "As monsoon is about to hit northern India shortly, today Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Delhi health min Satyendra Jain, Superintendents of AIIMS, RML & other hospitals, NDMC met for a meeting on preventive measures to be taken on dengue, chikungunya and malaria," a statement from the health ministry said, ANI reported.

Uttarakhand is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next four days due to the convergence of easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, the IMD said.
"Due to likely west-northwestward movement of low-pressure system and wind confluence from the Arabian Sea, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places very likely over Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Konkan and Goa during next 24 hours," the IMD statement read.
