Weather forecast Today India LIVE Updates: After a long wait, heavy rain and thundershower lashed Delhi-NCR on Monday afternoon bringing respite from hot weather conditions. In the evening, two flights were diverted from Delhi airport due to bad weather conditions, officials said. IMD had predicted generally cloudy skies and very light rain with thundershower in the national capital, a condition that is likely to continue till Thursday.

Meanwhile, heavy rain in Assam on Monday caused flooding in Kaziranga National Park and on National Highway 37. Incessant rain led to an increase in the water level of river Brahmaputra, affecting nearly 200 villages in Morigaon district in the state. Nearly 1.14 lakh people were affected by incessant rain across Meghalaya for the last seven days. Heavy rain in Nepal caused floods in Bihar, where four people were killed and nearly 18 lakh affected across various districts in the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather forecast said rainfall along the foothills of Himalayas will likely continue for the next two days resulting in riverine floods in Bihar. Widespread rainfall has been forecast for Assam and Meghalaya during the next 24 hours and it will decrease thereafter.

Two flights diverted from Delhi airport due to bad weather

Two flights were diverted from Delhi airport on Monday evening due to bad weather conditions, officials said. "Due to bad weather in Delhi, two flights got diverted to Lucknow airport on Monday evening," an airport official.

The city's long wait for monsoon showers ended Monday as it gauged 28.8 mm precipitation, the maximum in July this year, and more rains are expected over the next two to three days.

The moderate rainfall on Monday ended a six-day dry spell in the national capital. (PTI)

Possibility of very light rain in Delhi

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Monday is likely to be around 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be 26 degrees Celsius. Very light rain with thundershower has been forecast for today. A MeT official said that rain is expected in the city tomorrow.

Uttarakhand, northern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, and north of Punjab and Haryana will also experience rains during the next 4-5 days. Odisha and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive rain from July 18 onwards. Weather forecasters have predicted another dry day for Chennai, with the minimum and maximum temperatures today expected to be 29 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius respectively.

Floods ravaged Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Supaul and Kishanganj districts of Bihar. Meanwhile, Delhi witnessed a cloudy day on Sunday, with the minimum temperature recorded at 30 degrees Celcius and the maximum temperature was 37 degrees Celsius. In UP, Aligarh recorded a maximum of 37.6 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature among cities.
