Weather forecast and Temperature today HIGHLIGHTS: The capital received light showers Tuesday in a respite to the increasing temperature in the region. Meanwhile, heat wave conditions prevailed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, as the death toll in the latter state has touched 79. Various other places also recorded light to heavy rainfall whereas, Punjab, Kerala, Chhattisgarh were among some states that witnessed thunderstorms.

Heat wave likely in some areas of Telangana, thunderstorm in rest

Heat wave is likely in some districts of Telangana while thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds (30 to 40 kmph) and lightning are expected in remote places of the state Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Also, the IMD forecast conditions becoming favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon in
some parts in the next two or three days.

The monsoon was supposed to have hit the state on June 13, but due to cyclone 'Vayu' changing course the monsoon was delayed. Now, it is likely to set in around June 20.

The weather office expects heavy rain at isolated places from June 21 to June 23. (PTI)

Uneven distribution of pre-monsoon showers in Punjab, Haryana

Parts of Punjab and Haryana saw uneven distribution of rains during pre-monsoon season between June 1-18, according to data released by the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre. Some districts in the two states received excess pre-monsoon rains, while many others received scanty showers, the data showed.

The total rainfall recorded in the two states, however, was below normal for this period, an official of the MeT centre told PTI. Haryana, as a whole, received 16 mm of rains during the period as against the normal of 20.2 mm, while Punjab recorded 14.9 mm rainfall, against the normal of 21.3 mm, he said.

In Haryana, Gurgaon received 3.6 mm of rains during the period as against the normal of 13.8 mm. Panipat received 6.8 mm of rains against 22.1 mm, Yamunanagar received 5.6 mm against 46.1 mm, Faridabad received 5.7 mm against 16.4 mm and Ambala received 16.4 mm rains against 45.1 mm, the official said. Pre-monsoon showers bring down mercury in MP

Pre-monsoon showers have provided much-needed relief from intense heat to people in Madhya Pradesh, weatherman said Wednesday. The showers have almost brought down mercury across the state in the last 24 hours, an IMD officer said.

"Rains or thundershowers with gusty winds are likely to sweep many parts of Bhopal, Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa and Sagar divisions (in the next 24 hours)," India Meteorological Department's (IMD's) Bhopal office duty officer Abhijeet Chakroborty told PTI.

He said rains or thundershowers may occur in the next 24 hours at few places of Indore, Ujjain, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur and Shahdol divisions. (PTI)

Pleasant morning in Delhi with cloudy skies

In Delhi, residents woke up to a pleasant morning as minimum temperature today settled at 24.2 degree Celsius, four notches below the season's average. Humidity was recorded at 58 per cent. The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy skies towards the evening, however right now it is sunny. The temperature is likely to rise over the next few days, a MeT Department official said.

Cool rainy morning in parts of Goa

It was a cool Wednesday morning in Goa as light rains lashed some parts, including Panaji, even as the monsoon is yet to arrive in the coastal state. Light to moderate showers were witnessed in most places of Goa on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday, the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) centre here said in a bulletin. The state capital Panaji and Mormugao port area in South Goa recorded the highest maximum temperature of34 degree Celsius on Tuesday, the IMD said. (PTI)

Lightning is also expected at isolated places over Sub- Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Assam and Meghalaya.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over West Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura as well as Konkan and Goa.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets will continue over Vidarbha, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

With the heatwave in the state claiming multiple lives, the Gaya district administration has imposed prohibitory orders between 11 am and 4 pm.

Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls likely over south Peninsula & adjoining central India, Islands and Northeast India. IMD has forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over rest of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 42.8°C was recorded at Bapatla(Coastal Andhra Pradesh). A depression over Northeast Arabian Sea has weakened into a lower pressure areaa over Kutch and adjoining areas.
