Bihar CM Nitish Kumar held a meeting Tuesday afternoon with state ministers, chief secretary and other officers to monitor the flood situation in the state. The water level in the state’s Bagmati river rose after rainfall in Darbhanga.
The IMD forecast widespread rainfall across Gujarat till Saturday. In Maharashtra, five dams in the north and western regions released water after heavy rains in the catchment areas. A warning was issued to villages on the banks of the Mutha and Godavari rivers as their levels were likely to rise as a result.
The mercury in most parts of Kashmir and Ladakh regions, including Srinagar, continued its upward trend on Tuesday, even as Jammu recorded a marginal dip in the day temperature due to overnight rainfall.

The movement of trains on the Pathankot-Joginder Nagar section in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district has been suspended following heavy rains, a railway official said on Wednesday.
The Pathankot-Baijnath Paprola Express train has been cancelled till further orders as the line between Jawalamukhi and Koparlahar railway stations is closed, senior divisional operations manager Sudhir Singh said. (PTI)
Chandigarh is likely to witness a rainfall on Wednesday and a slight decline in the day temperature, the officials of the Met department said on Tuesday. The light, intermittent rain has been predicted to continue on Thursday and Friday with the maximum temperature set to remain around 32 degree Celsius. “Generally cloudy sky with likely rain/thundershowers,” the MeT department said in its forecast bulletin for Wednesday. The temperature is likely to remain around 30-degree Celsius during the day. There could one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, said an official.
The rainfall in the city on Tuesday not just touched the monsoon season’s normal but also surpassed it. Within less than two months since monsoon arrived over Pune, the rainfall recorded in the city currently stands at 561.8 mm. The normal for the June to September period is 508.5 mm. “The city has recorded good rains so far this season and on July 30, the city stands 84 per cent rain surplus this season,” said Anupam Kashyapi, head, weather department at India Meteorological Department. Three more persons died due to floods in Bihar on Tuesday, taking the total to 130 in the state so far, even as the situation in Assam showed signs of improvement with the water level in all major rivers receding.
