With conditions favouring the advancement of monsoon, several parts of coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Goa and Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains in the next 48 hours. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), rains with thunderstorm and lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. While heavy to very heavy rainfall is being forecast at isolated places over Kerala, Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, Goa, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
An advisory has been issued to fishermen to not venture due to rough sea conditions in the southwest and west central Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Bihar. Over 100 people have died in the state due to heatwave conditions.

Goa, where the south-west monsoon has set in, is experiencing moderate rainfall, but there is no major change in maximum temperatures, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Friday. After a delay of almost a fortnight, the south-west monsoon arrived in Goa Thursday, bringing in copious rains but their intensity reduced Friday. The state capital witnessed moderate rainfall Thursday and Friday.
The IMD, in its bulletin, said there was no big change in maximum temperatures and they were above normal in North and South Goa. The highest maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius was recorded at Panaji (North Goa) and Mormugao (South Goa), the weather office said. (PTI)
It was a partly cloudy Friday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 28.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year. According to the MeT department, the humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 56 per cent.
The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky throughout the day. "The skies will remain partly cloudy and the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 40 degrees Celsius," an official said. The late onset of the southwest monsoon and the emergence of Cyclone Vayu in the southeast Arabian sea before it moved northwestwards toward the Gujarat coast are being seen as the reasons behind severe rainfall deficit in Kerala till now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) station in Thiruvananthapuram observed. IMD data from June 1 to June 19 shows the rainfall deficit in the state touching 41 per cent with 13 of the 14 districts receiving less than normal rainfall. Read more here
Weeks after an acute water crisis gripped Chennai, parts of the city received rains Thursday, announcing the arrival of south monsoon. Conditions are becoming favourable for advancement of monsoon in remaining parts of Southern India, an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
