23 January 2025, Bank Holiday: January 23rd, designated as Parakram Diwas by the Indian government in 2021, honours the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
As we commemorate this significant day on Thursday, January 23, 2025, there is uncertainty regarding the operational status of banks throughout India.
Bank holidays in the country can vary based on regional celebrations, but it is important to note that both scheduled and non-scheduled banks consistently close on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Due to the observance of Parakram Diwas and the celebration of Vir Surendra Sai Jayanti, all banking institutions, both private and public, will be closed this Thursday.
However, it’s important to note the closure is not nationwide, and banks across West Bengal, Odisha, and Tripura will be closed, affecting both private and public sector institutions.
This closure is specific to these regions and is outlined in the Reserve Bank of India’s calendar for 2025.
The RBI designates bank holidays based on various regulations, including the Negotiable Instruments Act and RTGS holidays.
During Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, physical bank branches may be closed, but online banking services will remain operational.
Customers can utilise net banking, mobile banking, and UPI services without interruption.
It is important to note that extended holidays may result in limited cash availability at ATMs.
Customers should verify that their online banking services are active and connected to their registered mobile numbers to ensure smooth transaction processing.
