Famous chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed that nearly 500 lucky cat figurines were stolen in just one week from his new restaurant in London.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Ramsay, 58, said that his restaurant, Lucky Cat 22 Bishopsgate, has seen a huge number of these traditional Japanese maneki-neko figures go missing.
As quoted by The Guardian, Ramsay said, “The cats are getting stolen. There were 477 stolen last week – they cost £4.50 each.” This means he lost over £2,000 in just seven days.
These small cat figures, believed to bring good luck, are a key part of the restaurant’s theme. However, London police have not received any reports about the thefts.
Ramsay, who owns more than 80 restaurants worldwide, also spoke about his successful career. The Guardian quoted him saying, “It does get a bit scary, in terms of how big it is and the global impact,” while praising his team of talented chefs.
He also shared happy news about his daughter, Holly Ramsay, 25, who is engaged to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, 30. The Guardian reported that Peaty asked Ramsay and his wife, Tana, for their blessing before proposing. “It was that sort of amazing moment. Everything went quiet,” Ramsay said. “As a future son-in-law, we couldn’t ask for anyone better.”
The interview will be shown on The Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday at 9.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
