China, Nepal launch global dialogue series

The two-day initiative held in Pokhara derives its name from the famous lake there. The dialogue was inaugurated by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

The Nepal and China governments launched the “Phewa Dialogue” series together on Thursday as part of a collaborative effort to formulate regional prosperity and peace policies.

The two-day initiative held in Pokhara derives its name from the famous lake there. The dialogue was inaugurated by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

The dialogue is being hosted by the Sichuan University’s China Center for South Asian Studies and Tribhuvan University’s Department of International Relations and Diplomacy.

The Phewa dialogue, according to the documents circulated, will discuss issues like South Asia’s Global industrial shift and needs.

“Beautiful Pokhara, here we come. China has Boao Asia Forum, Swiss has World Economic Forum, Singapore has Shangri La Dialogue. Tomorrow, for the first time in history, Nepal will officially has your own Phewa Dialogue, a world-class think tank forum, dedicated to South Asia Regional Economic Intergration. Many thanks to joint efforts by TU and Sichuan University,” wrote Chen Song, China’s ambassador to Nepal, on social media X.

The K P Sharma Oli government four years ago had planned to start Sagarmatha dialogue series on the model of Raisina dialogue, which did not take off due to the COVID Pandemic.
