Earlier, the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticised Amazon for considering the idea to showcase tariff prices on products and called it “a hostile and political act.”

“Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” Leavitt said, adding that she had already spoken to President Trump regarding the issue.

Referencing about the need to bring manufacturing back to America, Leavitt said “It’s another reason why Americans should buy American.” She highlighted a 2021 report by Reuters which linked Amazon to “Chinese propaganda arm.”

Since coming back to office in January, Trump has been imposing high tariffs in hope to boost manufacturing and raise tax revenue for the US, while several foreign imports currently face 10% duty, Chinese products are facing 145% tariff.
