‘Unapologetically Canadian’: Justin Trudeau’s last message as PM

“This may be my last day here in this office, but I will always be boldly and unapologetically Canadian. My only ask is that no matter what the world throws at us, you always be the same," Justin Trudeau wrote on X.

Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his national identity on his final day in office, responding to repeated jabs from US President Donald Trump, who has mockingly referred to him as “Governor Trudeau” and floated the idea of annexing Canada.

“I am so proud of Canadians,” Trudeau said in a video posted on X. “This may be my last day here in this office, but I will always be boldly and unapologetically Canadian. My only ask is that no matter what the world throws at us, you always be the same.”

Speaking at the Liberal Leadership Convention in Ottawa on Saturday, Trudeau reflected on his tenure, emphasizing his government’s work for the middle class and the responsibility of the new leadership to safeguard Canada’s democracy and values.

Mark Carney, selected by the ruling Liberal Party to succeed Trudeau, will take the oath of office on Friday at Rideau Hall.
