Only 27 per cent of the total donation is being utilised for the R&D of ALS.

The ALS Ice bucket challenge has become a rage across the globe. It has gone viral with people from all walks of life, including celebrities, taking up the challenge.

While the challenge has an element  of fun, the basic pulling factor for it is the cause associated – extending support to the cause of ALS.
People who are taking up this challenge are giving donations for research and development of medicinal drug for this incurable disease.
But there’s a catch. A shocking fact that has come to fore is that only 27 per cent of the total donation is being utilised for the R&D of ALS.
Most of the donated money is being used in fundraising and disbursing the salaries of the employees of the ALS foundation.

According to the ECFA, a charitable watchdog, 27 per cent of donations actually making it to the cause they are donated to is unacceptable.
