Baharampur Election Results 2024: In a stunning shift, former cricketer and Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Yusuf Pathan has emerged victorious in the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal.
Pathan secured a significant margin of 85,022 votes, defeating his immediate rivals. As per the ECI, Pathan garnered 5,24,516 votes, while Congress two-time MP Ranjan secured 4,39,494 votes, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Dr Nirmal Kumar Saha, managed to secure 3,71,885 votes.
One of the parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal, Baharampur is traditionally a bastion of the Congress party. Current sitting MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who has been representing the constituency since 1999 till date, is contesting against TMC’s Yusuf Pathan.
The former Indian cricketer Pathan debuted in the Lok Sabha 2024 elections. After organising his first election rally in West Bengal, Pathan spoke with reporters stating, “I have a big team here. This is completely a different pitch but the asking rate is the same. The aim of my team will be the same, which is to score runs faster and win the match.”
In the last two Lok Sabha elections (2019 and 2014), Adhir Rajan won the seat, defeating candidates of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) significantly.
