Vidisha Election Results 2024: BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan won from Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh by a whopping 8,21,408 votes, defeating his nearest Congress rival. The former MP chief minister polled 11,16,460 votes while Congress’s Pratap Bhanu Sharma, a two-time parliamentarian, managed to get 2,95,052 votes.
This was Chouhan’s sixth victory from Vidisha. “I would like to thank the people who enabled BJP to win with more than 8.20 lakh votes. This is a reflection of people’s faith in prime minister Narendra Modi. The people have given us immense love. The people give love to those who serve them,” Chouhan told news agency PTI.
The former CM, who is currently the MLA from Budhni in Sehore district, also said that under Modi’s leadership, he will transform Vidisha into an ideal parliamentary constituency.
Vidisha, one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, has been a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for several years. The constituency has been associated with prominent BJP leaders such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
This year, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Vidisha saw a higher voter turnout of 74.48 percent, indicating a higher level of political participation in the constituency. The elections were marked by a fierce political battle between the four-time former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, popularly known as ‘Mamaji,’ and Pratap Bhanu Sharma from the Congress in the third phase on May 7.
According to exit polls conducted by India Today-Axis My India, the BJP is expected to maintain its stronghold in Vidisha with a significant margin of victory.
In the last 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Vidisha witnessed a voter turnout of 71.62 percent, with the BJP’s Ramakant Bhargava winning, securing 8,53,022 votes, and defeating Shailendra Rameshchandra Patel of the Indian National Congress (INC) by a significant margin of 5,03,084 votes.
