On Saturday evening, militants barged into the house of the SPO Ishfaq Ahmad at Chadbugh village of Budgam and fired indiscriminately on him. In the shootout, the police officer and his brother were critically wounded.
After facing criticism following its initial announcement on attachment of properties, police clarified on Saturday that such action would not be taken against those who have been forced to shelter militants “under duress”.
“On a specific input regarding movement of terrorists in a vehicle around Soura of Srinagar city, a covert team of Srinagar Police was following them,” police said. “The terrorists boarding the vehicle, however, fired indiscriminately upon the team.”
The visit has come two months after the J-K government inked several agreements with the global investors at the Dubai Expo2020.
A police statement said militants barged into the house of Tajamul Mohi-ud-din Dar in Gotpora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district and fired at him. Critically wounded, Dar was rushed to hospital where he succumbed, the police added.
Suspected militants on Saturday evening shot at and injured a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh in South Kashmir's Pulwama. The incident took place on the day Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Jammu, as part of his two-day visit.

On Thursday, Sameer Ahmad Bhat, a sarpanch owing allegiance to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was killed at his home in Khonmoh area on Srinagar outskirts. On March 2, a panchayat member was shot dead in Kulgam. The deceased, Mohammad Yaqoob Dar, was a panch in the Kolpora area in the district.
While two militants were killed in south Kashmir, the third was killed in a brief shootout in Srinagar. Two Army personnel were also injured in the south Kashmir gunfight.
Malla first came into the news in 2018 when an Army officer Major Leetul Gogoi was detained along with a girl from a Srinagar hotel.
Militants fired at Sameer Ahmad Bhat, a People's Democratic Party (PDP) sarpanch at his home in Khonmoh area outside of Srinagar.
The soldier, who had come back home on leave, went missing from his village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, with the family claiming that he had been abducted by militants in the region.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohd Bariq and Fazil Nabi Sofi. The two-wheeler the duo allegedly used in commission of the terror act has been recovered and seized, police said in a statement.
The number of those injured also climbed to 35 on Monday morning.
Currently, he is lodged at the Safakadal police station in Srinagar and his lawyer is reportedly contemplating to move another bail application.
The attack took place at around 4.20 pm in the busy Amira Kadal area that also sees a popular Sunday street market.
The most recent arrest, by the Srinagar police, is in connection with a case pertaining to his magazine’s reporting of an encounter in the city in May 2020.
Prayers at the mosque have only been allowed sparingly since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019
According to senior police officials, Dar was booked for “giving inciting statements and statements adverse to public peace and tranquility of Kashmir Valley in general and Srinagar town in particular”
